Unfriend is a Filipino horror-thriller movie directed by Joselito Altarejos, released in 2014. The film revolves around the life of a young college student named David, played by Angelo Ilagan, and his online relationship with a mysterious girl from Facebook. David is an introverted computer science student who spends most of his time online. He connects with a fellow student, Vanessa, played by Gwen Zamora, through Facebook. The two soon become friends and Vanessa invites David to hang out at her apartment with her roommates. At the apartment, David meets with the rest of Vanessa's friends, including her best friend Kyla, played by Boots Anson-Roa, and Kyla's boyfriend Peter, portrayed by Bobby Andrews.

As the night goes on, it becomes clear that Vanessa is interested in David romantically. However, he is more interested in Kyla, who he feels is more his type. Despite some insecurity regarding his feelings toward Vanessa, David remains cordial with her.

Soon after the night they spent together, David's life turns for the worse. Vanessa dies in a supposed freak accident and her death leads to a series of strange and unsettling occurrences in David's life. He begins to receive mysterious messages and videos from an unknown entity, causing him to question his own sanity. Meanwhile, his relationship with Kyla becomes more complicated by the day, and he realizes that there may be darker intentions behind Vanessa's death. With his life spiraling out of control, David must unravel the truth behind Vanessa's death and the strange events surrounding his life.

Unfriend is a fascinating movie that explores the complexities of online relationships and how a simple mistake can lead to disastrous consequences. The film is definitely not for the faint of heart, as it contains moments of intense horror and gore. While the movie has its share of popcorn thrills, it is more interested in exploring the nature of human relationships and the ways in which social media has changed the way we interact with one another.

The performances from the cast are generally good, with Angelo Ilagan giving a believable portrayal of a confused and terrified college student. Ilagan’s portrayal brings a sense of realism to the movie and provides a strong emotional anchor to the story. Meanwhile, Boots Anson-Roa delivers a standout performance as Kyla, a sympathetic character who brings heart to the story, while Shamaine Buencamino does a great job as Vanessa's grieving mother.

Joselito Altarejos does an excellent job with the direction of the film, using every tool at his disposal to ratchet up the tension and fear. He cleverly uses Facebook's appearance throughout the movie as a way to heighten the suspense, placing messages at key moments in the story. This use of technology adds a modern element to the classic horror genre, making it accessible to younger generations who have grown up with the internet.

The only issue with the film is that it attempts to tackle too many issues at once, resulting in the story feeling rushed in some parts. At times, it feels like the movie is trying to be a social commentary on the use of social media, while also juggling a horror plot. While the film is largely successful in balancing these two ideas, there are moments where it feels as though the movie is missing its focus.

In conclusion, Unfriend is a fascinating horror thriller that explores the darker side of technology and human relationships. Directed with passion and skill by Joselito Altarejos and grounded by a terrific cast, the film is a must-see for fans of horror and suspense. With its unique storyline and modern approach to a classic genre, Unfriend is a standout movie that is well worth your time.
