Underdog is a 2007 American comedy film directed by Frederik Du Chau, written by Joe Piscatella, Craig A. Williams, and Adam Rifkin, and produced by Spyglass Entertainment. The film is based on the 1960s animated television series of the same name created by W. Watts Biggers. The movie follows the story of a beagle named Shoeshine, who is accidentally exposed to a substance that gives him superpowers. Shoeshine is adopted by a security guard named Dan Unger (played by Jim Belushi) and his son Jack (played by Alex Neuberger). Jack names the dog "Underdog" after seeing him save a cat from bullies.
Paul Lynde provided the voice for the original animated Underdog, but in the live-action film, Underdog is voiced by actor Jason Lee. Lee gives the dog a sarcastic, wisecracking personality, which adds a lot of humor to the movie. Peter Dinklage plays the role of Simon Barsinister, the film's villain. Amy Adams plays the role of Polly Purebred, a beautiful show dog whom Underdog falls in love with.
The film takes place in Capitol City, where Underdog quickly becomes a beloved hero. He saves a cat from a tree, rescues a woman from a burning building, and stops a bank robbery. However, Underdog is not without his flaws. He's still just a regular dog, and he has a weakness for sausage.
Meanwhile, Simon Barsinister is up to no good. He's a scientist who wants to take over the world. He needs a special formula to carry out his dastardly plans, and he's willing to do whatever it takes to get it. He kidnaps Polly Purebred, and it's up to Underdog to rescue her.
Underdog is a feel-good family film that's full of laughs, action, and heart. It's a charming tribute to the classic cartoon, and it's clear that the filmmakers had a lot of fun bringing the character to life. The film is brightly colored and visually appealing, with a lot of fun special effects. The script is witty and engaging, and the cast is excellent.
One of the standout performances in the film is Amy Adams as Polly Purebred. She's a hilarious parody of the classic damsel-in-distress character, and Adams plays the role with a lot of winks and nods to the audience. Jason Lee is also excellent as Underdog. He captures the character's fun-loving spirit and delivers some great one-liners.
Overall, Underdog is a lot of fun. It's a great movie for the whole family, and it's sure to leave a smile on your face. Whether you're a fan of the original cartoon or you're just looking for a fun, lighthearted movie to enjoy with your kids, Underdog is definitely worth checking out.
