Un plus une is a romantic comedy-drama film that premiered in 2015. The movie stars Jean Dujardin, Elsa Zylberstein, and Christopher Lambert. Directed by the French filmmaker Claude Lelouch, Un plus une tells the story of Antoine (Dujardin), a famous French film composer who is tasked with composing the score for a Bollywood film. As Antoine travels to India, he meets Anna (Zylberstein), the wife of a French diplomat who is on a spiritual journey to explore the mysticism of the East. What follows is a romantic adventure that takes the two protagonists through the breathtaking landscapes of India.
The film opens with Antoine arriving in Mumbai, India, and being picked up by his Indian agent. Antoine is immediately struck by the chaotic and colorful surroundings. The agent takes Antoine to meet the film's director, who tells him about the storyline and the characters. Antoine is unimpressed with the script, but he agrees to compose the score as he needs the money. He soon discovers that the director intends to use one of Antoine's old compositions in the movie, and Antoine storms out in a rage.
Antoine's Indian agent introduces him to Anna, and their initial meeting is tense. Anna comes across as stern and serious, while Antoine is a frivolous and flamboyant character. However, they soon discover a mutual attraction and begin to get to know each other better. Anna shares her spiritual beliefs with Antoine, and he is initially skeptical but gradually comes around to her point of view.
As Antoine and Anna travel together, they face several challenges, including getting lost in the desert and having to spend the night in a small village. Antoine also has to deal with the ghosts of his past, including the death of his wife and child in a car accident. Meanwhile, Anna's marriage to her diplomat husband is falling apart, and she is considering leaving him.
Throughout the movie, there are several musical interludes, which showcase Antoine's compositions and the vibrancy of Indian music and dance. The movie culminates in a big musical performance, which brings together the characters and their emotions. Against the backdrop of the beautiful Indian landscape, the two protagonists come to a realization about their feelings for each other.
The acting in Un plus une is superb, with Jean Dujardin delivering a charismatic performance as the hedonistic composer, Antoine. Elsa Zylberstein is also excellent as the rigid and spiritual Anna, and the chemistry between the two leads is palpable. Christopher Lambert, who plays Anna's diplomat husband, is restrained but effective in his role.
The cinematography by Robert Alazraki is breathtaking, with vivid colors and sweeping landscapes that capture the magic of India. The music by Francis Lai and Bruno Coulais is also excellent, with the score seamlessly blending Indian and Western influences.
Overall, Un plus une is a delightful romantic comedy-drama that showcases the beauty of India and the power of music. It is a heartwarming and entertaining movie that is sure to leave viewers feeling uplifted and inspired.
