The Black Dahlia was written and directed by Ulli Lommel and was distributed by Lions Gate Entertainment in 2006. This outstanding cast of stars includes Elissa Dowling, Sutton Christopher and Christian Behm. This horror movie is loosely based on the real-life unsolved murder of Hollywood actress Elizabeth Short. The movie opens in the year 1947, as the infamous cold case murder of Elizabeth Short unfolds. This murder has also been dubbed as the "Black Dahlia" because of the rare flower that was found in her hair at the time of her death. The movie than shifts to modern day Los Angeles where mutilated bodies of young women are being discovered.
All of the young women that are found strike an uncanny resemblance to Elizabeth Short, and the way they are dismembered emulates the way that the Black Dahlia was found in 1947. It is obvious that they have a copycat serial killer stalking the streets of Los Angeles.
As the Los Angeles police department try to solve this case before another woman shows up dead, they realize that the original case was never solved, so they don't even have a criminal profile to draw from. One of the youngest rookie cops is determined to find the killer and becomes obsessed with the murder of Elizabeth Short.
As the investigation continues he discovers that all of the mutilated women had answered an ad for movie auditions at an abandoned warehouse. It appears that this copycat killer is actually a trio of self-proclaimed devil worshippers. With each new twist and turn, he realizes that to solve this case his sanity and judgment will be put to the test.
New to the field, he is faced with terror, torture and death like never before. As he is drawn into the world of the killers, he understands the sadistic fantasy that they are trying to recreate. This only makes him more determined to not only stop them but he plans on solving the Black Dahlia murder case once and for all.
Ulli Lommel's Black Dahlia is a 2006 horror movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 21 minutes. It has received poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 1.4.
