The movie released on 5 May 1978 and became a super hit at the box office. The story of Trishul revolves around the life of a young man named Vijay (Amitabh Bachchan) who seeks to avenge the wrongs done to his father (played by Sanjeev Kumar) by a successful businessman named Din Dayal (played by Shashi Kapoor). Vijay's father was pregnant with him when he was abandoned by his lover Shanti (played by Waheeda Rehman) who went on to marry Din Dayal. Shanti's husband, Din Dayal, leaves her and Vijay's mother alone when he becomes successful and wealthy. Vijay gets adopted by a kind-hearted man and makes a name for himself as a successful construction contractor.

Vijay sets out to seek revenge against Din Dayal but is unsure of how to go about it. His dilemma is worsened when he learns that his half-brother Ravi (played by Hema Malini's husband Dharmendra) is working at a construction site where he is the contractor. Ravi is unaware of his relationship with Vijay and the duo strike up a close friendship. When Ravi learns of his true identity, he struggles with the revelation and the conflict between his love for his brother and his loyalty to the man he has grown to respect.

As Vijay continues his quest for revenge against Din Dayal, he discovers that the businessman is not only involved in shady deals but has also wronged many others. Vijay becomes the champion of the underprivileged and those who have been wronged by Din Dayal. He is joined by actress Geeta (played by Rakhee Gulzar) who becomes his love interest and helps him in his fight for justice.

The film is notable for its powerful performances by the lead actors. Amitabh Bachchan delivers an outstanding performance as the angry young man seeking justice while Sanjeev Kumar portrays the wronged father with great finesse. Shashi Kapoor, as the cunning and manipulative businessman, delivers a nuanced performance that adds depth to the film. The chemistry between Amitabh Bachchan and Rakhee Gulzar is also noteworthy.

The film's music, composed by ace composer Khayyam, is another highlight of the film. The songs "Mohabbat Bade Kaam Ki Cheez Hai" and "Jaane Kaise Kab Kahan Iqrar Ho Gaya" are still popular among audiences to this day.

Overall, Trishul is a gripping and thrilling drama that showcases the talents of some of the finest actors of Indian cinema. The film's themes of justice, revenge, and the struggle between good and evil continue to resonate with audiences even today.
