Triple Threat is an action-packed movie released in 2019 directed by Jesse V. Johnson. The film stars several of the most renowned martial arts actors from Asian countries like Tony Jaa, Tiger Hu Chen, and Iko Uwais as its leading characters. The plot revolves around a wealthy businessman named Collins, who is an investor in a gold mine in Southeast Asia. After Collins discovers that the mine is being used to launder money disguised as gold, he alerts the mercenaries he hired for security. However, things get worse when these mercenaries turn out to be working for a foreign terrorist organization, led by the infamous Xian, who plans on using the laundered money to finance several criminal activities.

The situation gets out of hand when the mercenaries end up murdering everyone who is involved in the mission. This results in several innocent lives being lost, including Collins' daughter. Collins, infuriated by the death of his daughter, hires three highly skilled fighters, Jaka, Payu, and Long Fei, to hunt down the mercenaries and bring them to justice.

As Jaka, Payu, and Long Fei make their way through the jungle, they soon realize that they are up against a highly organized and trained group of fighters. Xian's muscle man, Collins' former friend, Devereaux (Scott Adkins), and a team of highly skilled mercenaries, all working together to ensure the money-laundering operation, makes its way to completion.

However, despite the fierce opposition they face, Jaka, Payu, and Long Fei, are determined to complete their mission, bringing down the terrorist organization and the rogue mercenaries responsible for Collins' daughter's death.

Triple Threat boasts exceptional martial arts choreography that showcases the unique strengths of each character, adding intensity and diversity to the film. These intricate fight scenes were brilliantly directed by Tim Man, who vividly brings the action to the screen, making viewers feel as if they are a part of the fight.

One of the most intriguing aspects of Triple Threat is its ability to balance intense action sequences with emotional storytelling. The film incorporates several personal stories into the plot, allowing viewers to connect with the characters on various levels. For example, Collins' desperation to avenge his daughter's death, Long Fei's abandoned status in China, and Jaka's perception of what is truly important to him.

Although the fight scenes are undoubtedly the highlight of Triple Threat, its storytelling and character development showcase Johnson's skill in creating a well-rounded action film.

In terms of the acting, Tony Jaa, Tiger Hu Chen, and Iko Uwais all deliver phenomenal performances as expected. Each character was given sufficient screen time to showcase their personalities, motivations, and exceptional fighting skills. Scott Adkins also delivers a satisfactory performance as Devereaux, the villainous mercenary whose ruthless actions result in tragic circumstances.

The film is not without its shortcomings, however. Some sections of the plot feel somewhat formulaic, and the script relies on a few too many clichés. Additionally, the character development of some supporting characters falls short, leaving many characters underutilized, at times leaving the viewer wanting more.

To sum up, Triple Threat is a highly entertaining action film that delivers on its promise of intense martial arts battles, and emotional storytelling. Although it may not be perfect, it presents excellent performances from its cast and well executed fight choreography. Fans of the genre would definitely enjoy what the film brings to the table.

Triple Threat is a 2019 thriller with a runtime of 1 hour and 36 minutes. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.6 and a MetaScore of 60.
