Track Down is a 2000 action-thriller movie directed by Joe Chappelle, starring Skeet Ulrich, Russell Wong, and Angela Featherstone. This movie uses the famous incident of the horrendous Waco siege as the backdrop. The movie kicks off with a highly tense action sequence where a group of ATF agents are trying to raid the Branch Davidian compound in Waco, Texas. The raid turns out to be a complete disaster, and four agents end up losing their lives. One of them is our hero, Billy Taggart (Skeet Ulrich).
The movie takes us forward two years after the failed raid. Billy, who is now jobless and brooding, decides to pay a visit to one of the survivors of the siege, David Koresh's sister, Rachel (Angela Featherstone). He is looking for some answers and hoping that Rachel can offer him some solace. Luckily, Rachel introduces Billy to her lawyer and Koresh's right-hand man, David Koresh (Russell Wong), who is now hiding under a different identity.
David Koresh is living a new life as a carpenter and is being hunted by the FBI. Despite this, he is still trying to prove his innocence and simultaneously protect his family. Billy finds himself getting drawn into David's attempts, and before he knows it, he has become a key member of David's covert operations.
However, the FBI is closing in on David, and this time, they are better prepared. With their new plan, they have managed to isolate David and his family, and they are slowly tightening the noose around them. Billy, David, and Rachel must now come up with a new plan to escape the FBI's clutches before it's too late.
Track Down uses a powerful script to keep the audience glued to the edge of their seats. The movie focuses on the human element that was missing from the media's coverage of the Waco siege. It tells the story through the eyes of Billy, Rachel, and David, who have all been affected by the siege in a profound way.
Moreover, the performances of the actors are commendable. Skeet Ulrich, in particular, steals the limelight with his emotional portrayal of Billy. He showcases the emotional turmoil that Billy undergoes, from being a proud ATF member to a broken and disillusioned ex-agent looking for answers.
Russell Wong delivers a remarkable performance as David Koresh. He paints a well-rounded picture of a man who was demonized too quickly by the media. Wong's Koresh is depicted as a man on a mission, trying to protect his family and clear his name.
Finally, Angela Featherstone brings depth to her role as Rachel Koresh. Her character's arc is about coming to terms with her brother's controversial past and moving beyond the Waco siege. Besides, she teaches Billy about the importance of forgiveness, which becomes a key element in the plot.
The direction of the movie is also noteworthy. Joe Chappelle cleverly balances the action and drama with the perfect pace. He adds the right amount of tension to the scenes, keeping the audience on the edge of their seats. The cinematography by Michael Slovis is also commendable, as he subtly sets the tone for the movie.
Overall, Track Down is an engaging thriller that is worth a watch. The movie is not just about the Waco siege; it is about the human element that is often overlooked in such incidents. With its powerful script, commendable performances, and well-paced direction, Track Down is a movie that is both harrowing and compelling.
