Toy Story 4 is a 2019 American computer-animated comedy film produced by Pixar Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures. Directed by Josh Cooley in his feature directorial debut, it is the fourth installment in Pixar's Toy Story series and the sequel to 2010's Toy Story 3. The movie revolves around the character of Woody (Tom Hanks), who is now in the possession of a new owner Bonnie after Andy gave him away. In Toy Story 4, Woody is struggling with his new life as a toy that is no longer the center of attention. He is struggling to adjust to his new position as second fiddle to new toys that Bonnie is playing with. The film largely revolves around Woody's struggle as he tries to find his place in the world again.
Throughout the film, Woody reunites with some familiar friends such as Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), Bo Peep (Annie Potts), Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head, Rex, Hamm and Slinky Dog, along with the introduction of a new toy, Forky (Tony Hale), who has been created by Bonnie herself out of a spork, pipe cleaners, and other random items. Forky is the new toy that Bonnie loves and Woody wants to make sure that he stays safe and becomes a part of Bonnie's toy family.
As the story progresses, Forky suddenly goes missing and Woody sets out to find him. Along the way, Woody ends up at an antique shop, where he meets a doll named Gabby Gabby (Christina Hendricks) and her creepy army of ventriloquist dolls. Woody teams up with an old friend, Bo Peep, who has been living on her own since her departure from Andy's room, and a newly reunited Buzz Lightyear to try and rescue Forky and return him back to Bonnie.
Toy Story 4 brings back a lot of the same heart and humor of the original trilogy, while also introducing new characters and themes. The film continues to explore the concept of growing up and transitioning to a new phase of life as a toy. It also focuses on the importance of friendship and loyalty, and shows how friendships can change and evolve over time.
The animation in Toy Story 4 is stunning and thanks to advances in technology from the previous three films, the colors and textures of the toys and their backgrounds are even richer. The movie's score, composed by Randy Newman, incorporates some familiar themes from the original trilogy, while also adding new themes for the new characters such as Forky and Gabby Gabby.
Overall, Toy Story 4 manages to bring a fresh take to this beloved franchise while still providing tons of nostalgia for long-time fans. The film is filled with humor, heart and an emotional core that will resonate with both kids and adults. It's a touching and well-told story that provides closure to the Toy Story saga in a fitting and satisfying way.
In conclusion, Toy Story 4, with its memorable cast of characters, incredible animation, and engaging storyline, is a must-watch for anyone who grew up with the original trilogy and new fans alike.
