Toomorrow is an upbeat and energetic sci-fi musical movie from 1970. It stars Olivia Newton-John, Benny Thomas, and Vic Cooper. It tells the story of a rock band named, naturally, Toomorrow, that's gradually making its way up through the ranks of the music industry. However, the quartet's fortunes are entirely transformed when they're recruited by a scientist named Simon Brent (played by Dudley Moore).

Brent is conducting experiments on a machine called the Unity Device, which he thinks can help humans communicate with other life forms in the galaxy. As it happens, he's already made contact with one highly advanced alien race, whose people are willing to swap knowledge with us, provided we can show off our culture in return.

Enter Toomorrow. The band is chosen as the sole representation of human artistic expression, and as a result, they're rocketed off into space to perform on another planet. There's just one catch – if the band plays well enough to please the alien audience, they'll be given access to the Unity Device and all its knowledge. If not, they'll be stranded on the mysterious planet forever.

With this dramatic and ridiculous premise set up, Toomorrow quickly descends into a series of interstellar adventures, featuring such diverse set-pieces as Olivia Newton-John belting out tunes on a giant, inflatable rainbow, to the rest of the band getting menacingly chased through a dark and dangerous cave. Along the way, they also pick up a friend named Himsel (played by a young Karl Howman), who is – surprise, surprise – an alien, who helps them out whenever they get into trouble.

The movie's plot is pretty much entirely nonsensical, and even at the time of its release, the sci-fi elements of Toomorrow were seen as cheesy and unconvincing. However, it's still an entertaining movie on its own terms, mainly thanks to the joys of modern-day nostalgia. For fans of 1970s British pop culture, in particular, it's a must-see classic.

The key attraction of Toomorrow, of course, is Olivia Newton-John. The film was a significant landmark in her career, marking her first-ever film role. She moves and dances so charmingly throughout the movie, with all her characteristic sparkle and energy on show. With Newton-John at the center, it's impossible not to get caught up and invested in the movie, no matter how ridiculous the plot might be.

In conclusion, Toomorrow is a fun, silly movie that's entirely of its time. It's got fantastic musical numbers, even if the sci-fi elements are somewhat clunky and unconvincing. Audience members who love 1970s pop culture will be the most likely to appreciate the movie, and Olivia Newton-John fans will undoubtedly enjoy seeing her early acting career. It won't be to everyone's taste, but if you're looking for a lighthearted and quirky sci-fi adventure with some catchy tunes thrown in, then Toomorrow might just be the movie for you.

Toomorrow is a 1970 comedy with a runtime of 1 hour and 35 minutes. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.2.
