Too Much Sun is a 1990 comedy directed by Robert Downey Sr. and starring Allan Arbus, Scott Atkins, and Robert Downey Jr. The film is a satirical take on classic Hollywood tropes, and follows the exploits of a washed-up actor who has been hired by a wealthy family to pose as their long-lost son. The film opens with Hollywood actor Eric Lazlo (Allan Arbus) sitting poolside in his Beverly Hills home, smoking a joint and waxing poetic about the state of the industry. Lazlo is a has-been, a former star of B-movies and low-budget horror flicks whose glory days are long behind him. He spends his days chasing women and getting high, and has all but given up on ever making it big.

But fate has other plans for Lazlo. One day, he receives a call from a wealthy couple named Charles (Ken Kwapis) and Lily (Andrea Martin) Pinsky, who have a proposition for him. Years ago, the Pinksys had a son who was kidnapped and presumed dead. Now, they believe they have found him in Lazlo.

The actor is skeptical at first, but when he sees the life of luxury that the Pinksys offer him, he decides to go along with the scheme. He agrees to pose as their long-lost son Avner, and moves into their lavish mansion in Malibu.

The rest of the film follows Lazlo as he tries to navigate his new identity and fit in with the eccentric Pinsky family. He has sex with the Pinksys' daughter, played by Andrea Martin, and thwarts various attempts by the Pinksys' scheming lawyer, played by Robert Downey Jr., to expose him as a fraud.

Meanwhile, Lazlo's former lover (played by Laura Ernst) shows up at the mansion and threatens to ruin everything. She's jealous of Lazlo's new life and is determined to sabotage his happiness.

Too Much Sun is a darkly funny satire that skewers Hollywood stereotypes and family dramas. The film is full of over-the-top antics and absurd situations, but at its core is a funny and surprisingly emotional story about a man who finds himself in the strangest of circumstances.

The performances in the film are all excellent, particularly Arbus who gives a nuanced and often hilarious performance as Lazlo. He's a pathetic character, but also strangely sympathetic, and Arbus does a great job of capturing both sides of the character.

Robert Downey Jr. is also great as the slimy lawyer who is constantly trying to uncover Lazlo's true identity. It's a classic Downey Jr. performance, full of charm and wit, and provides some of the funniest moments in the film.

Scott Atkins is a lesser-known actor who plays Lazlo's agent, and he's also excellent. He has great chemistry with Arbus, and their scenes together are some of the funniest in the film.

The film's biggest weakness is its pacing. At times, it moves too slowly and can feel a bit meandering. The film could have benefited from a tighter edit, particularly in its middle section.

Overall, though, Too Much Sun is a funny and engaging satire that is well worth your time if you're a fan of dark comedy. The film has a lot to say about Hollywood and the cult of celebrity, and it does so in a funny and entertaining way.

Too Much Sun is a 1991 comedy with a runtime of 1 hour and 37 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 4.2.
