Thru the Moebius Strip is a 2005 animated film directed by Glenn Chaika and featuring the voices of Jonathan Taylor Thomas, Christopher Rodriguez Marquette, and Mark Hamill. The movie takes place in the year 2121, where humanity has exhausted all resources on Earth and must look to the stars to survive. Young Jules, the son of the world-renowned scientist Dr. Eric Tivol, is forced to deal with the consequences of his father's obsession with his work as he grows up on the barren, desert planet that his father is attempting to terraform.
When his father disappears into a mysterious portal known as the Moebius Strip, Jules must follow in his footsteps to find him. With the help of his father's AI assistant, the plucky robot Zero, Jules embarks on an adventure that takes him through time and space, encountering alien creatures and befriending new allies along the way.
The animation itself is a blend of traditional hand-drawn animation and computer-generated graphics, giving the film a unique and striking look that stands out from other animated films of its time. The design of the alien creatures and futuristic technology is impressive and imaginative, taking inspiration from both science fiction and fantasy.
The voice acting is also noteworthy, with Jonathan Taylor Thomas delivering a strong performance as the film's protagonist, Jules. Christopher Rodriguez Marquette as Zero provides comic relief and Mark Hamill's turn as the villainous Dr. Krostov is suitably menacing.
One of the film's strengths is its exploration of complex themes such as the dangers of obsession, the consequences of environmental destruction, and the importance of family. These themes are woven seamlessly into the plot and add depth to the story beyond its action-adventure surface.
Thru the Moebius Strip may have flown under the radar upon its release, but it remains a solid and entertaining animated film that deserves more recognition. Its unique blend of animation styles and thoughtful storytelling make it an engaging and rewarding viewing experience for both children and adults alike.
