In the magical world of Altera, where humans and elves coexist, there is a power struggle brewing between the two races. The humans, feeling threatened by the power of the elves, have launched an attack on the Elven kingdom. The movie Throne of Elves is set in this world and follows the story of a human girl named Liya (voiced by Ashley Boettcher), who, after losing her parents in the war, is brought up by an elderly elf named Eolande. Liya has a special connection to the magical crystal, which makes her a key player in the battle between the humans and the elves.
As the movie progresses, we see Liya as she grows up, and she becomes increasingly aware of her powers. She finds herself entangled in a web of intrigue and politics as she tries to navigate her way through the complicated world of elves and humans.
The story takes an interesting turn when an army of goblins, led by an evil sorcerer named Krant, threatens the kingdom. Krant is after the magical crystal that can give him ultimate power, and he is willing to destroy the kingdom to get it. Liya, along with her elf friends, embarks on a perilous mission to retrieve the crystal before Krant can destroy it.
The animation in this movie is stunning, and the world of Altera is beautifully depicted. The characters are well-designed, and the voice acting is excellent. The movie's storytelling is quite fast-paced, and the action scenes are thrilling to watch. The film seamlessly blends magic, adventure, and morality to create an engaging and entertaining narrative.
One of the standout elements of the movie is the character development. Liya, the protagonist, transforms from a naive and innocent girl into a strong and confident young woman, who is willing to risk everything to protect her loved ones. Her relationship with Eolande, her adoptive mother, is beautifully portrayed, and it is heartwarming to see their bond grow stronger over the years.
Another character that deserves a special mention is the elf prince, Falian (voiced by G.K. Bowes). The prince is initially shown as a privileged and arrogant young man, but by the end of the story, he matures into a wise and compassionate leader. His character arc is one of the most satisfying aspects of the movie.
Throne of Elves is a sequel to the 2014 Chinese animated film Dragon Nest: Warriors' Dawn, but it can be enjoyed as a standalone movie. The movie deals with themes of love, loyalty, sacrifice, and the consequences of power.
One of the downsides of the film is that the story can feel a bit convoluted at times. There are many characters and subplots, and the movie can be hard to follow for younger audiences. However, this is a minor flaw, and the movie's strengths far outweigh its weaknesses.
Overall, Throne of Elves is an enjoyable and entertaining animated movie that will appeal to both children and adults. The cast of characters is diverse and engaging, the animation is top-notch, and the story is exciting and heartfelt. The film's themes of love and sacrifice are universal, making it a movie that can be enjoyed by viewers of all ages and backgrounds.
Throne of Elves is a 2016 fantasy movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 38 minutes. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.0.
