Three Days is a 2010 American thriller, directed by Paul Haggis and starring Russell Crowe, Elizabeth Banks, and Liam Neeson. It is a remake of the French film Pour Elle (Anything for Her). The movie revolves around the story of John Brennan (Russell Crowe), a college professor who lives a happy life with his wife Lara (Elizabeth Banks) and their young son Luke.
One day, their seemingly perfect world is turned upside down when Lara is accused of murder and is sentenced to a twenty-year prison term. She maintains her innocence, and John is convinced of it too. Despite their lawyer's warnings, John decides to take matters into his own hands and break his wife out of prison.
The movie begins with John and Lara enjoying a happy and comfortable life together. John is a loving husband, a devoted father, and a dedicated teacher, while Lara is a successful artist who sells her paintings in galleries. Everything changes when Lara is arrested and accused of killing her boss.
Although John's initial reaction is one of surprise and disbelief, he quickly realizes that he needs to act fast to save his wife from spending two decades in prison. With the help of a former inmate, Damon Pennington (Liam Neeson), John starts planning his wife's escape. The plan involves stealing a key from a guard, breaking into the prison, and driving to a pre-arranged location where they will start a new life together.
The movie takes us on a thrilling ride as John tries to execute his risky plan. He faces numerous obstacles along the way, such as unexpected visitors, limited time, and the fear of being caught by the police. John even has to resort to violence to achieve his goal, which puts his own life and the lives of his loved ones in danger.
One of the highlights of the movie is the chemistry between Russell Crowe and Elizabeth Banks. They portray a couple who truly love each other and are willing to do whatever it takes to stay together. Crowe gives an excellent performance as a man who is desperate to save his wife, while Banks shines as a woman who maintains her innocence despite everything that is thrown her way.
Liam Neeson adds an extra layer of complexity to the movie. His character, Damon Pennington, is a former inmate who has gone through the same experience as Lara. He provides valuable advice to John and helps him plan the heist, but his shady past makes us wonder if he can be trusted.
Overall, Three Days is a well-crafted thriller that keeps viewers on the edge of their seats. It explores the lengths a person can go to protect their loved ones, the consequences of taking the law into one's own hands, and the power of trust and loyalty in a relationship. Although it is a remake of a French movie, the American version stands on its own due to the strong performances of its cast and the tense atmosphere created by the director.
