Three and Out is a British comedy-drama film directed by Jonathan Gershfield and released in 2008. The movie stars Mackenzie Crook as Paul Callow, a London Underground train driver who has just experienced two tragic accidents in a row, both involving suicides. In the UK, train drivers involved in such accidents are given three days off work, also known as the "three and out" rule. Paul is devastated by what has happened and seeks to end his life at the end of the three-day period. However, his plans are interrupted by Tommy Cassidy (Colm Meaney), a down-on-his-luck American who becomes his unlikely savior.

Tommy has a strange proposition for Paul - he will pay him a large sum of money if he will agree to drive a train for him and purposely run over someone who has jumped in front of the train. Tommy explains that he is dying of cancer and wants to collect the insurance payout that comes with such an event, so that he can leave the money to his estranged daughter. Initially, Paul is appalled by the idea, but the financial implications of Tommy's offer soon become too tempting to ignore.

Together, Paul and Tommy embark on a journey to find a suitable candidate for their scheme, leading them to the seedy underworld of London's homeless population. Along the way, they meet a number of colorful characters, including a young woman named Francesca (Sharon Duncan-Brewster) who has an important connection to Paul's past, and a group of men who call themselves "the Brotherhood of the Black Spot" and are obsessed with train spotting.

The film is both funny and poignant, exploring themes of life, death, and the lengths that people will go to in order to get what they want. Mackenzie Crook turns in a strong performance as the troubled Paul, who is struggling to come to terms with the events that have befallen him. Colm Meaney is equally excellent as the larger-than-life Tommy, who is trying to make peace with his own mortality.

Sharon Duncan-Brewster also shines in her supporting role as Francesca, a young woman with a tragic past who is searching for her own sense of purpose. Her relationship with Paul is at the heart of the film, and their scenes together are both funny and moving.

Overall, Three and Out is a well-crafted film that blends comedy and drama in a way that is both entertaining and thought-provoking. It is a touching exploration of the human condition, and a tribute to the resilience of the human spirit in the face of adversity.

Three and Out is a 2008 drama with a runtime of 1 hour and 50 minutes. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.1.
