Thoughtcrimes is a 2003 psychological thriller starring Navi Rawat, Joe Flanigan and Peter Horton. Rawat delivers an outstanding performance as Freya McAllister, a woman who has the ability to hear other people's thoughts. When her ability makes her unable to hold down a job and leads to a nervous breakdown, she seeks help from the government-run agency that oversees people with psychic abilities.
Under the care of Dr. Mellow (Peter Horton), Freya is given a job as an operative in The Institute for Human Betterment. Here, she is tasked with using her abilities to help solve crimes and prevent terrorist attacks.
Freya quickly becomes disillusioned with the Institute's tactics, which include forcing her to read the thoughts of suspected criminals without their consent. She is also disturbed by the fact that they are using her as a tool of mass surveillance, monitoring the thoughts of regular citizens on a massive scale.
As Freya tries to find a way to escape the Institute and the psychic and mental torment it puts her through, she meets a man named John Sullivan (Joe Flanigan), who she discovers also has psychic abilities. Together, they work to uncover the dark secrets behind the Institute and put a stop to it before it's too late.
The movie raises interesting questions about the ethics of using psychic abilities to carry out surveillance and enforce the law. Rawat's performance as Freya is both compelling and emotionally charged, bringing the character to life with realistic, human flaws and strengths.
Flanigan's character, John Sullivan, is also well-developed, serving as Freya's love interest and confidant as well as someone who plays an important role in uncovering the Institute's secrets.
Overall, Thoughtcrimes is a thought-provoking thriller that explores the sometimes dangerous consequences of psychic abilities and the power they can hold over those who possess them. It is a gripping film that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end.
