Thoranai is a Tamil action-comedy film from 2009 directed by debutant Sabha Ayyappan and starring Vishal, Shriya Saran, and Prakash Raj. The movie revolves around a young man named Murugan, played by Vishal, who is an honest and hardworking mechanic, whose life takes a turn when he meets the charming and clever Indhu, played by Shriya Saran. Following an unfortunate incident, Murugan and Indhu get entangled in a complex web of events that forces them to navigate their way through treacherous situations and corrupt people to come out unscathed.
Set in a small village in Tamil Nadu, the movie begins with Murugan and his group of friends who run a mechanic shop and lend money to people in need. Right from the start, Murugan is shown to be a man of principles, who believes in helping others and doing what is right. His world is turned upside down when he meets Indhu, who is being chased by some local goons. Being the gentleman he is, Murugan saves her and takes her to his house.
Despite their initial awkwardness, Murugan and Indhu start to develop a mutual liking for each other. However, their budding romance is cut short when they become the unwitting participants in a power struggle between a corrupt politician and a wealthy businessman, played by Prakash Raj. The rest of the movie is about how Murugan and Indhu find a way to come out on top and take down the bad guys.
One of the highlights of Thoranai is the chemistry between Vishal and Shriya Saran. Despite the slight age difference, they make an adorable couple and their playful banter is a joy to watch. Vishal, who also produced the movie, delivers a solid performance as the rugged and heroic Murugan, who can take on any challenges thrown at him. Shriya Saran, on the other hand, makes the most of her screen time and delivers a charming and confident performance as Indhu.
Prakash Raj, as usual, is a delight to watch. His character is an interesting mix of cunning and menace, and he brings out the nuances effortlessly. His henchmen, played by Suman and Kishore, are also convincing in their roles as the hired goons who do their masterâs bidding.
The movieâs soundtrack, composed by Mani Sharma, is peppy and catchy. The song âManja Thottamâ is a particular highlight, with its energetic beats and Vishalâs dance moves. The movieâs fight sequences, choreographed by Thalapathy Dinesh, are also a treat to watch, especially the climax fight scene, which is well-executed and visually stunning.
Overall, Thoranai is a fun and entertaining movie that combines action, romance, and comedy in equal measure. The movieâs strength lies in its lead actorsâ performances, the well-written characters, and the fast-paced screenplay. Itâs not a perfect movie, and there are moments of predictability and over-the-top action sequences, but it never gets boring, and the engaging storyline keeps you hooked throughout.
In conclusion, if youâre a fan of Tamil action movies with a dash of romance and comedy, Thoranai is definitely worth checking out. Vishal and Shriya Saranâs chemistry, the catchy music, and the well-executed fight scenes make it an enjoyable watch.
