In 1938, audiences were treated to a heartwarming comedy-drama film titled The Young in Heart, starring Janet Gaynor, Douglas Fairbanks Jr., and Roland Young. Adapted from a novel by I.A.R. Wylie, the movie follows the story of a family of con artists known as the Carletons. The matriarch of the Carleton family is Miss Letty (played by Minnie Dupree), a proud and cunning woman who teaches her children how to manipulate and deceive their way through life. Her son Richard (Fairbanks Jr.) is a handsome and charming young man who uses his wit to swindle wealthy women out of their money. His sisters George-Anne (Gaynor) and Evie (Paulette Goddard) also have their fair share of tricks up their sleeves, but they are less ruthless than Richard.

After a failed con attempt in Glasgow, the Carletons find themselves broke and stranded in a small town in Scotland. Desperate for money, Richard decides to target an aging American millionaire named Miss Fortune (Billie Burke). However, his plan takes an unexpected turn when he falls in love with Miss Fortune's innocent and kindhearted niece Laurie (Janet Beecher).

As the Carletons get to know Miss Fortune and her family, they begin to question their own morals and priorities. Laurie's philanthropic spirit and genuine care for others awaken a sense of humanity in the Carletons, who have spent their entire lives looking out for themselves. Meanwhile, Laurie's fiancé (Richard Carlson) becomes increasingly suspicious of the Carletons and their true intentions.

The Young in Heart is a delightful and heartwarming film that showcases the talents of its star-studded cast. Gaynor is charming and endearing as George-Anne, who begins to see the world in a different light thanks to Laurie's influence. Fairbanks Jr. shines as the dashing but conflicted Richard, who struggles with his feelings for Laurie and his loyalty to his family. Young delivers a hilarious performance as Charles, a bumbling and absent-minded butler who provides comic relief throughout the film.

The movie also features gorgeous cinematography that captures the beauty of Scotland's landscapes, as well as a whimsical musical score that adds to the film's light-hearted tone. The Young in Heart is a rare gem of a film that combines humor, romance, and drama in a perfectly balanced way, leaving audiences with a warm and fuzzy feeling.
