The Wind Rises is a 2013 Japanese animated production of a historical film written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki. The Ghibli Studio is responsible for the animated. It is Miyazaki's final film, who retired in September 2013. This film is a fictionalized biography of Jiro Horikoshi, who was the designer of the WWII fighter plane, the Mitsubishi A5M and the Mitsubishi A6M Zero its successor. Both aircraft saw action during World War II.
Plot In Japan during 1918, Jiro Horikoshi, as a young boy while living in a provincial town, dreams of nothing but being a fighter pilot. However, his poor eyesight denies this. After reading an aviation magazine, Jiro has a dream he meets the world renowned Italian aircraft designer Caproni, who tells him that designing and building aircraft is greater than flying them.
Five years later, Jiro is on a train bound for Tokyo to study engineering. On the way he meets a girl named Naoko who is accompanied by her maid when suddenly an earthquake strikes, the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923. Naoko's maid suffers a broken leg. Jiro carries the maid to Naoko's family, but leaves without giving his name.
Jiro begins working for the Mitsubishi aircraft manufacturer, where he begins learn about the possibilities of life in aircraft design, but he hasn't seen the last of Naoko.
