In the 1986 comedy film The Whoopee Boys, two young men from the wrong side of the tracks, Jake Bateman (played by Michael O’Keefe) and Barney Benar (played by Paul Rodriguez), are desperate for money and a way out of their dead-end lives. They come up with a plan to pose as high-class gigolos and fleece rich older women out of their money.

After a rough start, where they mostly get laughed at by their would-be clients, Jake and Barney manage to snag a couple of wealthy women who are willing to pay top dollar for their services. Things start looking up for the duo as they enjoy the high life, living in luxurious hotels and dining at expensive restaurants.

However, their luck soon runs out when they unknowingly become involved in a diamond smuggling operation, which draws the attention of the police and a ruthless criminal known as Big Daddy (played by Denholm Elliott).

As Barney and Jake desperately try to extricate themselves from the dangerous situation, they find themselves involved in a variety of misadventures, including posing as musicians, breaking into a hotel room, and dressing up as women to evade capture.

Along the way, they also learn some valuable lessons about honesty, compassion, and the importance of friendship. The film combines slapstick humor and witty one-liners with heartwarming moments that keep the audience engaged and entertained throughout.

Michael O’Keefe and Paul Rodriguez deliver solid performances as the scrappy duo, with great chemistry and a knack for physical comedy. The comedic timing and delivery of Denholm Elliott, who plays the villainous Big Daddy, add an extra layer of humor to the film.

One of the standout scenes in the movie involves Jake and Barney crashing a fancy party and performing a raucous rendition of “I Will Survive” in drag. The scene is both hilarious and heartwarming as Jake and Barney manage to win over the crowd with their sheer enthusiasm and sense of fun.

The Whoopee Boys is an enjoyable and entertaining comedy that is perfect for a night of lighthearted fun. While the film may not be particularly groundbreaking, it is consistently funny, well-acted, and ultimately uplifting. It’s a great choice for anyone looking for a dose of 80s nostalgia and a good laugh.
