The Ward is a 2010 horror/thriller movie directed by John Carpenter, starring Amber Heard, Mamie Gummer, Danielle Panabaker, and Laura-Leigh. The story is set in the 1960s and focuses on Kristen (Heard), a young woman who is admitted to a mental institution after setting a farmhouse on fire. Kristen has no memory of her past or why she committed the crime.

Upon her arrival at the institution, Kristen is placed in the care of Dr. Stringer (Jared Harris) and the nurses who work there, including Emily (Gummer), Sarah (Panabaker), and Zoey (Leigh). At first, Kristen tries to escape from the hospital but is caught and given a sedative that puts her to sleep. When she wakes up, she finds that one of the patients, a young girl named Tammy, has disappeared without a trace.

Throughout the movie, Kristen struggles to remember her past and understand why she is in the hospital. She begins to have hallucinations and visions of a ghostly figure dressed in a white gown. She also discovers that the other patients in the ward are experiencing similar ghostly phenomena, and they all seem to be connected to a room at the end of the hallway that is always locked.

As Kristen and the other patients try to unravel the mystery of the ghostly presence, they are met with resistance from the hospital staff, who seem to be hiding something. They also face danger from an unknown force that seems to be targeting them one by one.

The Ward is a movie that is heavy on suspense and atmosphere, creating a feeling of claustrophobia and tension as the story unfolds. Carpenter's direction is masterful, using the limited space of the mental institution to great effect, and building a sense of dread that permeates the movie. The performances by the cast are solid, with Heard delivering a strong performance as the troubled and confused protagonist. Gummer and Panabaker provide excellent support, and Leigh is haunting as the ghostly presence that haunts the mental institution.

Overall, The Ward is a well-crafted horror/thriller that manages to keep the audience engaged and guessing until the very end. It's a throwback to classic horror movies, relying more on suspense and atmosphere than gore and jump scares, and it's a welcome addition to John Carpenter's impressive filmography.

The Ward is a 2011 horror movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 28 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.5 and a MetaScore of 38.
