The War Between Men and Women is a 1972 American comedy-drama film directed by Melville Shavelson and starring Jack Lemmon, Barbara Harris, and Jason Robards. The movie is based on the book of the same name, which was a semi-autobiographical account of cartoonist James Thurber's romantic and professional experiences. The film begins with a montage of Thurber's comic strips, which sets the tone for the story. Jack Lemmon stars as Peter Wilson, a successful cartoonist who enjoys his bachelor lifestyle. However, when he meets Terry Kozlenko (Barbara Harris), a single mother of two, his world is turned upside down.

Terry is independent, strong-willed, and has a no-nonsense attitude. This is in stark contrast to Peter, who is carefree and enjoys his freedom. Despite their differences, they fall in love and decide to get married. However, their relationship is tested when they realize they have different ideas about marriage, family, and work.

Peter wants Terry to be a traditional housewife, taking care of the children and the house, while he focuses on his career. Terry, on the other hand, wants to have a career of her own and doesn't want to rely on Peter for financial support. This conflict leads to several arguments and ultimately causes Peter to have a nervous breakdown.

While Peter is recovering, Terry takes over his column, much to the dismay of his editor, Homer (Jason Robards). Homer believes that a woman can't draw cartoons and tries to sabotage her. However, Terry proves him wrong and becomes a success.

The film also explores the relationship between Peter and his daughter, Emily (Lisa Gerritsen). Emily is struggling in school, and Peter is concerned that he's not doing enough as a father. He tries to help her with her homework, but his unorthodox methods end up causing more problems.

The War Between Men and Women is a humorous and touching exploration of gender roles and relationships. The script is witty and insightful, and the performances from the cast are excellent. The film is also visually interesting, with animated sequences that bring Thurber's drawings to life.

The movie's themes are still relevant today, and it's a great example of how a comedy can tackle serious topics in a thoughtful and engaging way. The War Between Men and Women is a must-see for fans of classic cinema and anyone interested in the battle of the sexes.
