The Vertical Ray of the Sun tells the tale of three Vietnamese sisters who come together in Hanoi, Vietnam for the purpose of meeting on the anniversary of their mother's death and prepare a banquet for recognition. Soon after the banquet ends, the three sisters begin to learn truths about each other that they had known of each other. The eldest sister has a small son and a husband whom she rarely sees. The middle sister has just found out that she is pregnant. The youngest sister possesses the most unique characteristic of all, she dreams of being pregnant someday soon, but the problem is the man she desires to romantically be linked with, is her brother.
