The Truth Beneath is a 2016 South Korean thriller directed by Lee Kyoung-mi and starring Son Ye-jin, Ju-hyuk Kim, and Yu-hwa Choi. The film tells the story of a politician's wife named Yeon-hong (played by Son Ye-jin) who lives a seemingly perfect life with her husband, Jong-chan (played by Ju-hyuk Kim), and their teenage daughter, Min-jin (played by Yu-hwa Choi). However, their lives are turned upside down when Min-jin goes missing.

From the very beginning of the film, it's clear that something is amiss. Yeon-hong is shown trying to call Jong-chan multiple times but getting no answer, and she's visibly worried. Her anxiety grows when she realizes that Min-jin has disappeared, and she desperately tries to find her daughter. At first, Yeon-hong thinks that Min-jin has simply run away because the two had been fighting earlier that day. But as time goes on, she begins to suspect that something much more sinister is going on.

As Yeon-hong starts digging deeper into her daughter's life, she realizes that she didn't know much about Min-jin's world. She finds out that Min-jin had a secret boyfriend and had been keeping things from her. Yeon-hong becomes convinced that Min-jin's disappearance is related to politics and that her husband is involved. As she investigates further, she discovers secrets that could threaten her entire family's future.

Throughout the film, Lee Kyoung-mi builds a sense of tension and unease, constantly making the audience question what's really going on. Are Yeon-hong's suspicions justified, or is she just paranoid? Is Jong-chan hiding something from her, or is he innocent? As Yeon-hong delves deeper into the mystery, she starts to uncover more and more secrets, and the truth becomes murkier and harder to discern.

The acting in The Truth Beneath is particularly noteworthy. Son Ye-jin gives an incredibly nuanced performance as a mother grappling with the disappearance of her child and the realization that her perfect life might be a facade. Ju-hyuk Kim is also excellent as the ambitious politician who may or may not be involved in his daughter's disappearance. Together, the two actors make for a compelling and complex duo.

Overall, The Truth Beneath is a gripping thriller that keeps the audience on the edge of their seats until the very end. Lee Kyoung-mi masterfully builds tension and suspense, while Son Ye-jin and Ju-hyuk Kim deliver standout performances. Fans of Korean cinema, as well as anyone who enjoys a good mystery, will definitely want to check out this film.
