Watch The Ten Commandments

The movie The Ten Commandments (2001) is a retelling of one of the most iconic stories in religious history. Egyptian pharaoh, Seti I, orders the death of all Hebrew baby boys in response to a prophecy that foretells a Hebrew child will grow up to become his enemy. A Hebrew woman, Jochebed, resists the order and sets her son, Moses, adrift on the Nile river. He is found and adopted by Seti's daughter, Bithiah, who raises him as her own.

The conflict between the Hebrews and the Egyptians escalates, and Moses unwittingly kills an Egyptian overseer who was abusing a Hebrew slave. Fearing for his life, Moses flees Egypt and settles in Midian, where he marries a woman named Zipporah and becomes a shepherd.

One day, while tending to his flock, Moses is summoned by God through a burning bush that does not consume itself. God tells Moses that he has been chosen to deliver the Hebrews from bondage and lead them to the Promised Land. Moses is hesitant, feeling inadequate for such a colossal task, but God reassures him and gives him miraculous powers to convince the pharaoh to release the Hebrews.

Moses returns to Egypt and confronts the new pharaoh, Ramses II, with ten plagues, which ravage the land and its people. Despite the horrors that befall them, Ramses refuses to let the Hebrews go until the final plague, the death of the firstborn, claims his own son. Finally, Ramses relents, and the Hebrews leave Egypt, but not before being pursued by Ramses and his army.

At the Red Sea, the Hebrews face impending doom as the Egyptian army closes in on them. But God intervenes and parts the sea, allowing the Hebrews to cross over on dry land. When the Egyptians follow them, the sea closes over them, and they drown.

After the miraculous escape, Moses leads the Hebrews through the wilderness, where they face numerous challenges, including thirst, hunger, and internal divisions. However, God provides for them with manna and water, and Moses receives the Ten Commandments on Mount Sinai, which become the foundation of their society and religion.

The movie ends with Moses' death and the Hebrews' arrival at the edge of the Promised Land, led by his successor Joshua.
