This documentary details the life and career of actor, singer and political activist Paul Robeson, one of the biggest African American stars of the 20th century. Archival footage and interviews with Robeson and his contemporaries provide an intimate portrait of a man who crossed many boundaries of race as a performer and later as a political activist. A talented sports person, Robeson played professional football before embarking on a stage and film career that saw him perform in classic plays and Hollywood movies. His political views saw him blacklisted in the McCarthy era.
