"The Taking of Power by Louis XIV" (1966) is a French TV movie that's also called "The Rise of Louis XIV." Louis XIV (1638- 1715). Although he was crowned in 1654, he did not truly come into his own as king until after the death of Cardinal Mazarin in 1661. Louis XIV had to contend with ambitious court nobles, including his own mother, who had hoped that the Cardinal's death would give them a chance to increase their own power.
