Emily Hall has seen the promising start she made to her life and career as a writer dip in recent years, the approach of her 30th birthday and a looming high school reunion only highlight the problems she has. As Emily ponders whether or not to end it all she is faced with a series of revelations from her family, including her mother revealing the true identity of her missing father. A series of strange and slightly deranged characters enter Emily's life and add to her indecision about the future.
