The Seduction is a 1982 thriller directed by David Schmoeller. The movie follows the story of Jaime Douglas, a successful TV anchorwoman played by Morgan Fairchild, who finds herself being stalked by a deranged fan. The film begins with Jamie giving a report on a recent rape case, which enrages her stalker, Derek, played by Andrew Stevens. Derek begins to obsess over Jamie and goes to extreme lengths to get her attention. He breaks into her home, steals her personal belongings, and even calls her at work to profess his love for her.
Jaime becomes increasingly afraid and decides to take self-defense classes. During one of these classes, she meets Brandon, played by Michael Sarrazin, a charming and mysterious man who takes an interest in her. Brandon seems to be the answer to Jamie's prayers, but as she falls for him, she realizes that he may not be the knight in shining armor that he seems to be.
As Derek's behavior becomes more erratic and dangerous, Jamie turns to the police for help. But when they fail to protect her, she takes matters into her own hands and decides to confront Derek herself. What follows is a dangerous game of cat and mouse as Jamie and Derek face off in a deadly showdown.
The Seduction boasts solid performances from its lead actors, especially Morgan Fairchild, who delivers a convincing portrayal of a woman in fear for her life. Michael Sarrazin is charming as the mysterious Brandon, and Andrew Stevens is unsettling as the obsessive Derek. The tension between Derek and Jamie is palpable, and the film does a great job of keeping the audience on edge.
In addition to the suspenseful plot, The Seduction also has an excellent score by Lalo Schifrin that adds to the film's overall mood. The cinematography is also notable, with some beautiful shots of Los Angeles.
While The Seduction may be a bit dated by today's standards, it is still an entertaining thriller that will keep you guessing until the very end. It's a solid example of the stalker-thriller genre, and Morgan Fairchild's powerhouse performance alone makes it worth watching.
The Seduction is a 1982 thriller with a runtime of 1 hour and 44 minutes. It has received poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.0 and a MetaScore of 20.
