The Runaway (2016) is a gripping thriller that follows the story of a young runaway named Zoe (Stephanie Danielson) who is on the run from the law, and a dangerous criminal. The movie is set in rural America, and the scenic beauty of the countryside serves as a brilliant backdrop to the film's harrowing plot. The movie begins with Zoe sitting in a hotel room, looking through the local newspaper's classified section for jobs. She's been on the run for some time, and has been living off the money she stole from her abusive stepfather. We soon learn that Zoe is estranged from her mother, who chose her stepfather over her own daughter. While we don't get to know much about Zoe's past, it's clear that her childhood was traumatic, and the scars of her past continue to haunt her.
The plot thickens when we are introduced to a sleazy hotel manager named Matt (Eric Michael Cole) who shows an unhealthy interest in Zoe. He bribes her with a job at the hotel, and promises to keep her hidden from the law. Zoe is reluctant at first, but desperate for money, she agrees to the job. Soon, Matt starts making inappropriate advances towards her, and Zoe knows she has to get out of the hotel, and fast.
However, escaping is not easy. Not only is Zoe wanted by the police, but she has also been tracked down by a dangerous criminal named Jack (Richard Hench). Jack is a cold-blooded killer who will stop at nothing to get what he wants. Zoe knows that she is no match for Jack, and so she must stay hidden and avoid being detected at all costs.
As the movie progresses, we see Zoe struggle to keep her head above water. She takes refuge in a nearby forest, living in a makeshift tent and hunting for food. Despite her best efforts to remain hidden, Zoe is eventually discovered by Jack's henchmen, and is taken captive.
From here on, the movie takes a dark and terrifying turn. Zoe is held captive by Jack, who tortures her both physically and mentally. In some of the movie's most intense scenes, we see her desperately trying to escape, while Jack and his men are hot on her heels.
Throughout the movie, Stephanie Danielson delivers a powerful performance as the young and vulnerable runaway. We see her journey from desperation and fear to strength and resilience, as she fights against all odds to survive. Similarly, Eric Michael Cole is impressive in his portrayal of the sleazy hotel manager, Matt. He brings a palpable sense of menace to the role, and we can't help but feel uneasy every time he's on screen.
Overall, The Runaway (2016) is a thrilling and intense movie that will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. It's a stark reminder of how vulnerable some people are, and the lengths they will go to in order to protect themselves. With great performances from the cast and a well-paced plot, this movie is definitely worth a watch.
