Watch The Rite

The Rite is a religious horror film about a man that loses his faith and is generally unhappy with his life. He joins the seminary school for the free education. Hoping that the seminary will help him in gaining his faith back, Michael Kovak(Colin O'Donoghue) joins and four years pass. He still feels the same. He writes a letter of resignation to the seminary school. Father Matthew(Toby Jones) persuades him to go to Rome in training some more with Father Xavier(Ciar`an Hinds) in the art of exorcism.

Michael accepts only after the offer of either having to pay back his education or having it completely free by going to Rome. He arrives in Rome and joins the class. He meets a woman, Angelina(Alice Braga) who is a reporter. They strike up a friendship. Early on in the class Michael is still a disbeliever so Father Xavier arranges for him to meet Father Lucas(Anthony Hopkins).

Father Lucas is taking care of a possessed 16 year old girl who is also pregnant from a rape. Several paranormal experiences happen, but still leaves Michael disbelieving. It is only when the two of them have to rush the girl to the hospital after she tried taking her own life. Unfortunately, they are too late the girl and her unborn baby dies. Father Lucas is inconsolable.

Shortly after the death, Father Lucas starts acting differently. Against the demon's wishes that is inside of Father Lucas, he asks Michael and Angelina into his home. Michael and Angelina desperately tries to find Father Xavier, but fail to find him to perform the exorcism.

Michael makes the decision to do the exorcism with Angelina present. He successfully performs the exorcism and saves Father Lucas. Doing the exorcism restores his religious faith and Michael finally is happy with his life. He continues his life in the church.

The Rite is a 2011 drama with a runtime of 1 hour and 52 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.0 and a MetaScore of 38.
