The Red Turtle is a 2016 animated fantasy drama film directed by Dutch-British animator Michael Dudok de Wit. The film has no dialogue and relies solely on visuals and sound effects to tell the story. The movie tells the story of a man who is stranded on an island after his ship is destroyed in a storm. He tries to escape the island by building a raft, but each time he sets out to sea, a red turtle destroys his raft. The man eventually discovers that the turtle is not his enemy, but a mystical creature that is trying to teach him a lesson.

The movie begins with the man, who is never given a name, struggling to stay afloat in the middle of a storm at sea. He washes up on the shore of a deserted island with nothing but the clothes on his back. He spends his days exploring the island, searching for food and water, and trying to find a way off the island. One day, he builds a raft using bamboo and sets out to sea, but the red turtle appears and destroys his raft. The man tries again and again to build a raft, but every time he sets out to sea, the red turtle destroys it.

As the man continues to live on the island, he begins to notice strange things happening around him. He sees a group of crabs on the beach, which seem to be watching him. He also sees a mother turtle laying eggs on the beach, and watches as the eggs hatch and the baby turtles make their way to the sea. One night, the man has a dream in which he sees the red turtle on its back, struggling to move. He wakes up the next morning and finds the turtle on the beach, unable to move. He turns the turtle over and leaves it on the beach.

The next morning, the man wakes up to find that the turtle has transformed into a woman. The two begin a relationship, and the woman helps the man to survive on the island. They build a home together, and the woman gives birth to a baby boy. The family lives happily on the island, but the man still longs to leave and return to civilization. He builds another raft, and once again, the red turtle destroys it. It is then that the man realizes that the red turtle is not his enemy, but a guide that is trying to teach him a lesson.

The movie explores themes of love, loss, and the connection between humans and nature. The film's stunning animation and beautiful soundtrack convey the emotions of the characters without the need for dialogue. The Red Turtle is an emotional and powerful film that will leave viewers thinking long after the credits have rolled.

The film was produced by Studio Ghibli, the legendary Japanese animation house responsible for movies such as Spirited Away and My Neighbor Totoro. This is the first non-Japanese film to be produced by the studio. The film was a critical and commercial success, winning the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival and receiving an Academy Award nomination for Best Animated Feature. It is a must-see for anyone who appreciates beautiful animation and powerful storytelling.
