The Rage is a 1997 action-thriller film directed by Sidney J. Furie and produced by Avi Nesher. The movie stars Lorenzo Lamas as Alex Gainer, a former special forces soldier who becomes the target of a group of ruthless mercenaries. The story begins with a military experiment gone wrong. A top-secret serum developed by the military to enhance soldiers' physical and mental abilities is stolen by a rogue agent. The serum is highly addictive and, when combined with a new drug called "Rage," it turns its users into aggressive killing machines.
The mercenary group led by Colonel Hogan (Gary Busey) is hired to retrieve the serum, but when they discover that Gainer has hidden it, they target him and his family. Gainer, along with his wife and son, must fight to survive and uncover the truth about the rogue agent and the conspiracy behind the military experiment.
The movie is fast-paced and action-packed, with intense fight scenes and explosions to keep the audience engaged. Lorenzo Lamas delivers a solid performance as the tough and determined protagonist, while Kristen Cloke gives a commendable performance as his wife who has to fight for survival alongside him.
The supporting cast is also impressive, with Gary Busey playing the ruthless and cunning mercenary leader, Colonel Hogan. Busey delivers a chilling performance and brings a level of intensity to the movie that is hard to ignore. However, some of the other supporting actors feel underutilized and don't get much screen time.
The movie's special effects are decent for the time, with some impressive explosions and a helicopter crash scene that is visually stunning. However, some of the practical effects, such as the prosthetic makeup used for the infected soldiers, feel subpar and detract from the movie's overall quality.
The movie's plot is fairly predictable, with most of the twists and turns easy to see coming. However, the movie's fast pace and action-packed nature make up for this, and the audience is left on the edge of their seats throughout.
One of the standout features of the movie is its soundtrack. The Rage features an excellent score by composer David Michael Frank, which perfectly complements the action scenes and adds a layer of intensity to the movie.
Overall, The Rage is an entertaining action-thriller that delivers on its promise of high-octane action and suspense. While it may not be the most original movie out there, it is still an enjoyable watch and worth checking out for fans of the genre.
