The story of a family fixated on perfection is depicted in THE QUANTIFIED SELF. Their pursuit of perfection rests on collecting data about themselves; data that can be tracked and ultimately improved. All their efforts to be the best family possible mean that they use quantification instead of intuition, emotion and affection. In effect, their relationship with data has become a substitute for real human relationships. And their pursuit of the unattainable has replaced the search for their own humanity. As a family they feel unhappy and disconnected but on paper everything looks great.
