The Prodigy is a 2019 supernatural horror film directed by Nicholas McCarthy and written by Jeff Buhler. The movie stars Taylor Schilling as Sarah, a mother who becomes concerned about her son's disturbing behavior. Jackson Robert Scott plays Miles, the young son who exhibits unusual and alarming behavior, and Peter Mooney portrays the troubled therapist who attempts to unravel the mystery of Miles' behavior.

The Prodigy opens on a snowy night in Pennsylvania with Sarah giving birth to her son Miles. Flash forward eight years later and Sarah and her husband John (played by Paul Fauteux) notice strange occurrences happening as Miles begins displaying signs of advanced intelligence and also exhibits bizarre behavior. He starts exhibiting violent tendencies and paranoid behavior, and Sarah is forced to consider the possibility that her son could be possessed.

The film is a slow-burn horror movie that relies heavily on suspense and atmosphere to create a sense of unease in the audience. One of the key strengths of the film is the performance of Jackson Robert Scott as Miles. He imbues the character with a sense of otherworldliness, and he strikes the right balance between innocence and sinister intent. Taylor Schilling also delivers a strong performance as Sarah, a mother torn between her love for her son and mounting evidence that something is seriously wrong.

As the movie progresses, Sarah enlists the help of Arthur Jacobson (Peter Mooney) a therapist who specializes in past-life regression therapy. He focuses on the idea that Miles might be the reincarnation of a serial killer, Edward Scarka, who was executed in the 1800s. Jacobson's investigations lead him to believe that Miles has the ability to recall Scarka's memories and is struggling to fight his influence.

The relationship between Jacobson and Sarah serves as a key part of the film. While Sarah is desperate to save her son, Jacobson's own mental state is put to the test as he struggles to stay objective and help his patient. He finds himself grappling with his own personal demons and his obsession with the Scarka case.

Overall, The Prodigy is a well-crafted supernatural horror movie that delivers chills and thrills in equal measure. It features an excellent cast, a tight script, and solid direction that keeps the audience engaged from start to finish. While it may not be the most groundbreaking horror film in recent memory, it is certainly one that horror fans will appreciate for its strong performances, suspenseful tone, and satisfying final act.

The Prodigy is a 2019 horror movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 32 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.9 and a MetaScore of 45.
