In The Party's Just Beginning, Karen Gillan stars as Liusaidh, a young woman living in a small town in Scotland who is struggling to find her place in the world after the suicide of her best friend, Alistair (Matthew Beard). Liusaidh spends her days working as a supermarket cashier and her nights drinking and hooking up with strangers. She also has a strained relationship with her family, particularly her mother, who constantly nags her about getting her life together.

One night, Liusaidh meets a man named Dale (Lee Pace) who is passing through town on his way to Inverness. Dale is charming and mysterious, and Liusaidh is immediately drawn to him. They spend the night together, but when Liusaidh wakes up the next morning, she finds that Dale has left without saying goodbye.

As Liusaidh continues to navigate her own grief and sense of aimlessness, she becomes increasingly obsessed with finding out more about Dale and what he's doing in town. Her search leads her down a dark and increasingly dangerous path, as she becomes entangled in a world of drugs, sex, and violence.

Throughout the movie, we see flashbacks to Liusaidh's life before Alistair's suicide, when she was a happier, more carefree person. These flashbacks are intercut with scenes from her current life, where she seems to be constantly drowning in her own self-destructive tendencies. We also see how Alistair's death has impacted the people around Liusaidh, including his mother (played by Siobhan Redmond) and his former boyfriend (played by Paul Higgins).

As Liusaidh's obsession with Dale grows more intense, she's forced to confront some harsh truths about herself and her own coping mechanisms. Along the way, she also connects with a group of immigrants who are living in the same town, but who are often treated as outcasts by the other townsfolk. These characters add a valuable layer of diversity and empathy to the story, highlighting the ways in which grief and trauma can be universal experiences that transcend race and nationality.

Overall, The Party's Just Beginning is a dark, gritty, and emotionally charged movie that explores some hard-hitting themes such as mental illness, suicide, addiction, and the struggles of small-town life. Despite its heavy subject matter, the movie is often surprisingly funny and has some great one-liners that help to break up the tension. Karen Gillan delivers a powerful performance as Liusaidh, showcasing both her comedic and dramatic abilities. Lee Pace is also excellent as Dale, playing the character with just the right mix of charm and menace. The movie is well-directed by Gillan herself (who also wrote the screenplay), and it's clear that she has a strong vision for the story and the characters. Overall, The Party's Just Beginning is definitely worth checking out, especially if you're a fan of dark comedies or character-driven dramas.

The Party's Just Beginning is a 2018 drama with a runtime of 1 hour and 31 minutes. It has received mostly positive reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.1 and a MetaScore of 68.
