Tessa has divorced her husband Michael and settled into a comfortable life raising their two daughters with little input from her ex husband or his new wife Carolyn. Things change for Tessa when she is diagnosed with a terminal medical condition and decides the time has come for her daughters to grow close to their stepmother and prepare them all for a future without Tessa. A road trip to the Wyoming ranch of Tessa's family seems like the perfect opportunity to help the seemingly selfish Carolyn of the responsibilities she will face in the future.
