The One is a 2001 science fiction, action-thriller movie that revolves around the concept of parallel universes. Directed by James Wong, the film stars Jet Li in a dual role, Carla Gugino as his wife, and Delroy Lindo as an interdimensional lawman. The movie is set in a future where the Multiverse Theory is widely accepted. It suggests the existence of parallel universes where each person has different versions of themselves leading different lives. The multiverse also includes a kind of cosmic system, where each time an alternate self dies, the energy they release is divided evenly among their other selves, giving them greater strength and agility. The movie's plot begins here.

Jet Li plays two versions of himself - a villainous Gabriel Yulaw, a ruthless, power-hungry lawman who goes rogue and usurps the powers of his counterparts across the universes. He deploys his vast knowledge to hunt and kill his other selves, believing that by doing so, he will absorb their combined strength and become the one true universe's champion.

On the other hand, Li also plays Gabe Law, a soft-spoken LA police officer who is unaware of his other selves and their connections. But this changes when Yulaw travels to Gabe Law's universe and kills him, becoming an unstoppable force with immeasurable power.

The movie's story takes an interesting turn when Gabe Law's wife, T.K. played by Carla Gugino, becomes involved. She bears witness to Yulaw's actions and their ramifications on the multiverse. T.K. helps the interdimensional lawman, Roedecker played by Delroy Lindo. Roedecker is tasked with keeping an eye on the multiverse and ensuring balance between the universes. He combs the universes for any signs of a newly emerged Yulaw and intervenes to stop him from killing his other selves.

Roedecker and T.K. team up to stop Yulaw, but with his strength and power ever-increasing, the odds are stacked against them. As they race against time, they must also find Gabe Law's surviving alternate, who possesses an equal amount of power and is the only one who can stop Yulaw's reign of terror.

The movie is a sci-fi, martial arts action extravaganza, featuring Jet Li's awe-inspiring fight sequences that leave the audience breathless. With the help of some state-of-the-art visual effects, the film takes viewers on an exhilarating ride through the multiverse, showcasing the different worlds and alternate realities.

The One delivers thrills and excitement from start to finish and features an outstanding performance by Jet Li in dual roles. While some of the scientific concepts explored in the movie can be complicated, the story is entertaining and doesn't take itself too seriously. It also deals with the consequences of the multiverse theory, such as the notion of fate and the cost of desire.

Overall, The One is an entertaining science fiction action film that will keep viewers on the edge of their seats. The stylish fight scenes coupled with its incredible story, and a final exciting showdown makes The One an enthralling, action-packed movie experience.

The One is a 1968 action movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 27 minutes. It has received poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.9 and a MetaScore of 25.
