The Marksman is a 2021 American action thriller film directed by Robert Lorenz and starring Liam Neeson, Katheryn Winnick, and Teresa Ruiz. The movie tells the story of Jim Hanson (Neeson), a former Marine and Vietnam War veteran who lives on a ranch on the Arizona-Mexico border. One day, while he is out patrolling his ranch, he comes across a mother and her young son on the run from a Mexican drug cartel.

The mother, Rosa (Ruiz), is seeking asylum in the United States but the cartel is after her son, Miguel (Jacob Perez), who is the only witness to a murder committed by the cartel. Jim reluctantly agrees to take them to safety across the border into Chicago, but they soon discover that the cartel has hired a skilled assassin, Mauricio (Juan Pablo Raba), to hunt them down.

The movie is action-packed, with lots of chase scenes, shootouts, and narrow escapes. However, it also has an emotional depth that sets it apart from other films in the genre. Jim is a complex and flawed character who has his own demons to battle, including the loss of his wife to cancer and the potential loss of his ranch due to financial difficulties.

Through his interactions with Rosa and Miguel, Jim learns to confront his own prejudices and preconceptions about Mexican immigrants and the border, and to see them as human beings rather than just political issues. Rosa, too, is a fully fleshed-out character who is not just a damsel in distress, but a strong and resourceful woman who will do anything to protect her son.

The cinematography in The Marksman is also noteworthy, with stunning shots of the American Southwest and the Mexican border, as well as gritty depictions of the urban landscape of Chicago. The film also features a haunting score by Sean Callery, known for his work on Homeland and 24.

Overall, The Marksman is a thrilling and emotional ride that explores issues of immigration, family, and the human cost of violence. It is a must-see for fans of Liam Neeson action movies, but it also has a lot to offer to those who are looking for something more substantive than just mindless entertainment.

The Marksman is a 2021 action movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 48 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.7 and a MetaScore of 44.
