In the movie The Last Stand, Arnold Schwarzenegger plays the role of Sheriff Ray Owens, a former LAPD officer who now lives a peaceful life as the sheriff of a small town called Sommerton Junction. The town is so peaceful that Owens and his colleagues spend most of their time dealing with minor issues such as parking tickets and animal control. However, their peaceful existence is soon shattered when a dangerous drug lord named Gabriel Cortez (played by Eduardo Noriega) escapes from FBI custody and makes his way towards the Mexican border with a hostage and a heavily armed convoy.

As the FBI pursue the drug lord with helicopters and SWAT teams, they discover that Cortez has plans to cross the border in Sommerton Junction. Owens and his deputies are faced with the daunting task of stopping the most wanted man in America from escaping the country. Owens and his team consist of Jerry Bailey (played by Johnny Knoxville), a gun collector and amateur scientist; Sarah Torrance (played by Jaimie Alexander), a skilled markswoman; and Lewis Dinkum (played by Luis Guzmán), a cynical deputy.
