In the year 476 AD, the Roman Empire is on the brink of collapse as the barbarian Odoacer and his army lay siege to the city of Rome. Emperor Romulus Augustus (Thomas Sangster), the last of the Caesars, is forced to flee the city with his loyal advisor, Ambrosinus (Ben Kingsley), and a small band of soldiers. Their goal is to find the legendary Ninth Legion and the magical sword, Excalibur, which is said to have the power to defeat their enemies and restore Rome to its former glory.
