The Invited is a horror movie released in 2010, directed by Ryan McKinney and written by Carlos Jimenez Flores. The movie stars Lou Diamond Phillips, Megan Ward, and Ellen Albertini Dow in the lead roles. The story begins with a couple, Antoinette (Megan Ward) and Alex (Carlos Leon), moving into their new home in the countryside. The house is an old plantation with a dark history that they are unaware of at the time. Soon after their arrival, strange things start to happen, and Antoinette starts to feel that the house is haunted. Alex dismisses her concerns, thinking that she is just nervous about living in a new place.
As the days go by, Antoinette's experiences become more intense, and she starts to investigate the history of the house. She finds out that a family was murdered in the house many years ago and that their ghosts are still haunting the place. Antoinette decides to invite a group of friends and a psychic, Lydia (Ellen Albertini Dow), to the house to try and communicate with the spirits.
The group arrives at the house, and Lydia begins to attempt to contact the spirits. However, things soon take a turn for the worse, and the group finds themselves under attack from the vengeful ghosts. The group must fight for their lives as they try to escape the house and put an end to the haunting.
The Invited is a slow-burning horror movie that relies on atmosphere and tension to create scares rather than jump scares. The movie has a gritty and eerie feel to it, with the old plantation house being the perfect setting for a horror movie. The cinematography is excellent, with the house being shot in a way that makes it feel like a character in its own right.
Lou Diamond Phillips gives a decent performance as Rick, one of Antoinette's friends who accompanies her to the house. His character is a skeptic who doesn't believe in ghosts but is forced to confront his beliefs when faced with the supernatural. Megan Ward is also good as Antoinette, who becomes increasingly distressed as the haunting intensifies.
The standout performance in the movie, however, is Ellen Albertini Dow as Lydia. Her character is a psychic who is brought in to communicate with the spirits. Dow's performance is both humorous and creepy, and she steals every scene she's in.
One of the weaknesses of the movie is the pacing. The first half of the movie is slow, with not much happening in terms of scares. It takes a while for the haunting to intensify, and some viewers may lose interest before the action picks up.
The script also has some weaknesses, with some of the dialogue feeling forced and predictable. There are some moments where the characters make questionable decisions, which can take the viewer out of the movie.
Overall, The Invited is a decent horror movie that has some scares and an eerie atmosphere. The performances from the main cast are good, especially Ellen Albertini Dow as Lydia. The pacing could be improved, but the old plantation house is a great setting for a horror movie, and the cinematography is excellent. If you're a fan of slow-burning horror movies, The Invited is worth a watch.
The Invited is a 2015 horror movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 34 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 4.1.
