The Harvest is a 2013 psychological thriller directed by John McNaughton and stars Samantha Morton, Michael Shannon, and Natasha Calis. The movie follows the life of Maryann (Morton) and her husband Richard (Shannon) as they try to protect their seriously ill son Andy (Charlie Tahan) from a mysterious girl named Maggie (Calis). Maryann is a former nurse who quit her job to take care of her sick son. Richard is a surgeon who works long hours, leaving Maryann to look after Andy on her own. The family lives in a secluded farm in rural America, surrounded by cornfields and acres of land. They have no neighbors except for the parents of the local sheriff who live a few miles away.

As the movie begins, we see Maryann and Richard take care of their son, who is a terminally ill child suffering from a rare bone disease. They try to keep him happy and comfortable by spending all their time with him and engaging him in various activities. However, things take a strange turn when Maryann notices a mysterious girl named Maggie wandering around their property. Initially, she thinks the girl is lost and tries to help her find her way home. However, as Maggie's visits become more frequent, Maryann begins to suspect that the girl has some ulterior motives.

Richard, on the other hand, is unaware of Maggie's existence and is focused on finding a cure for their son's illness. He spends long hours at the hospital and is determined to find a way to save Andy's life. However, his dedication to his work causes tension between him and Maryann, who feels neglected and isolated.

As the movie progresses, we learn more about Maggie's past and her relationship with Maryann and Richard. It becomes clear that she has a hidden agenda, and her intentions are not entirely pure. Meanwhile, Maryann and Richard's marriage begins to crumble under the strain of their son's illness and Maggie's presence. When Andy's health takes a turn for the worse, they are forced to make some difficult decisions that will determine the fate of their family.

The Harvest is a slow-burn thriller that relies heavily on the tension between the characters. The isolation and seclusion of the farm create a claustrophobic atmosphere that adds to the sense of unease. Samantha Morton delivers a superb performance as a mother torn between her love for her son and her suspicion of the mysterious girl who seems to have taken an interest in him. Michael Shannon brings his trademark intensity to the role of a dedicated surgeon who may have lost sight of what truly matters.

Natasha Calis provides an eerie presence as Maggie, the enigmatic girl whose true intentions remain a mystery until the very end. The movie also features impressive supporting performances from Charlie Tahan as Andy and Leslie Lyles as Sheriff Ballard's mother, who adds a touch of humor to the otherwise tense proceedings.

Overall, The Harvest is a well-crafted thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat. It explores themes of isolation, loss, and the lengths parents will go to protect their children. While it may not be a movie for everyone, it is definitely worth checking out for fans of psychological thrillers.

The Harvest is a 2015 horror movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 44 minutes. It has received mostly positive reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.1 and a MetaScore of 68.
