He awakens to find himself in his luxurious apartment in Rome, where he lives with his secretary and mistress, Peggy. Howard is a successful businessman who has made his fortune trading in rare antiquities. He is also a collector of strange and macabre objects, which he keeps in his private museum.

Howard's obsession with his dead wife leads him to investigate her death, starting with the discovery of a small object that she had on her when she died. He becomes convinced that the object is the key to unlocking the mystery of her death and enlists the help of a local historian, Andrew Kelp, to investigate further.

As Howard and Andrew delve deeper into the mystery, they uncover a disturbing history of the object's origins. It is revealed to be a cursed item that was once owned by a powerful sorceress, who used it to control the minds of her victims. The sorceress was eventually killed, but her spirit is said to live on, inhabiting the object and bringing death and destruction to those who possess it.

He starts to lose his grip on reality and becomes convinced that he is being haunted by his dead wife's spirit.
