The Good Girls is a Mexican crime-drama film released in 2018. Directed by Alejandra Márquez Abella, this movie is a dark and gritty look at the lives of wealthy women during the economic crisis in the 1980s. The story is set in Mexico City during the year 1982, when the country is facing a major financial crisis. A group of wealthy women, Sofia, Ana, and Sara, are used to living the high life, complete with designer clothes and lavish parties. However, their comfortable lives are threatened when their husbands are suddenly arrested for financial fraud. Left without any money or resources, the trio of women are forced to come up with a plan to survive in a world that they are not accustomed to.
Sofia, Ana, and Sara are all friends, but they have very different personalities. Sofia (Ilse Salas), the group's leader, is a fierce and independent woman who is used to calling the shots. Ana (Cassandra Ciangherotti) is more reserved and conservative, but her impeccable taste and connections come in handy when the group needs to make deals. Sara (Paulina Gaitan) is the youngest of the three and the most impulsive, often acting without thinking about the consequences.
Together with their loyal maid, Adela (Ana De La Reguera), the group comes up with a plan to start selling off their belongings to make ends meet. However, this quickly proves to not be enough, and they soon turn to the world of crime to continue their lavish lifestyles. The women start selling stolen goods, and they soon get involved with a dangerous group of criminals. As their situation spirals out of control, the reality of their new lives starts to set in, and the women are forced to confront the harsh truth about themselves and their privileged backgrounds.
The Good Girls is a gripping film that shows the harsh realities of life when wealth is suddenly taken away. The characters are complex and interesting, and the acting is superb. Ilse Salas, in particular, shines as the no-nonsense leader of the group. The film's themes of crime, greed, and survival are all handled with nuance and sensitivity, making for a thought-provoking and engaging viewing experience.
At its heart, The Good Girls is a cautionary tale about the dangers of excess and the importance of resilience in the face of adversity. It's a film that will keep you on the edge of your seat, and it's a must-see for anyone who enjoys a good crime drama.
