The Contractor is a 2007 action-thriller film that stars Wesley Snipes in the lead role. Directed by Josef Rusnak, the movie tells the story of a retired CIA agent who is forced back into action when his former employers need him to take down a terrorist target. Along the way, he teams up with a talented young thief played by Eliza Bennett and must navigate a complex web of intrigue and danger.
The film opens with a heated debate within the CIA about whether or not to authorize a mission to take down a notorious terrorist known as 'The Wolf.' Although some argue that the risks are too high, the agency ultimately decides to move forward with the operation. Their plan hinges on the expertise of James Dial, a retired agent who once hunted down The Wolf but failed to take him out.
Dial is played by Snipes, who brings both his action hero credentials and his dramatic range to the role. He portrays the character as a world-weary man who's haunted by his past failures and reluctant to get involved in the agency's war on terror once again. However, when the agency blackmails him into accepting the mission, he finds himself back in the fray.
As Dial prepares to carry out the operation, he meets up with a young pickpocket named Emily Day, played by Bennett. Emily, who is also an expert in martial arts, has been recruited by the CIA to assist Dial in his mission. Initially, Dial is skeptical of her abilities and resentful of her presence, but he soon comes to rely on her as they work together to track down The Wolf.
One of the highlights of the film is the tension between Dial and Emily. Bennett gives a strong performance as the plucky thief who's determined to prove herself to the reluctant agent. As they face one dangerous situation after another, their dynamic evolves into a partnership based on mutual respect and trust.
Another standout performance comes from Lena Headey, who plays the director of the CIA. Headey, who is best known for her role as Cersei Lannister in Game of Thrones, brings a steely resolve to the character, who is under pressure to deliver results in the fight against terrorism. She's a tough boss who takes no nonsense from her subordinates, but she's also fiercely dedicated to her job.
Ralph Brown rounds out the cast as The Wolf, the elusive target of the CIA's mission. Brown plays the character with a quiet intensity that makes him all the more menacing. Although he doesn't get much screen time, his presence looms over the entire film as the ultimate goal of Dial and Emily's mission.
As the plot unfolds, Dial and Emily find themselves up against not only The Wolf but also a shadowy network of spies and double-agents. The film does a good job of keeping the audience guessing as to who can be trusted and who can't, and it builds to a satisfying climax that delivers on the action and suspense.
Overall, The Contractor is a solid entry in the action-thriller genre. It's not a groundbreaking film by any means, but it's an entertaining ride that showcases Snipes and Bennett's talents and delivers plenty of thrills and suspense. Fans of the genre won't be disappointed.
