This Russian historical novel, based on the Nikolai Gogol novel, examines the exploits of 16th century Cossack leader Taras Bulba. As Polish armies continue to invade the Ukraine, Bulba decides to make a bold move in order to learn more about his mortal enemies. He sends his son to study in Poland so he can report back to his father. The situation gets complicated, however, when his son becomes enamored of a Polish woman of noble birth and falls in love with her.
