break came in 1970 with the release of the
Burt Bacharach-Hal David song, "(They Long to Be) Close to You",
which stayed at #1 on the music charts for over a month.
Their next single "We've Only Just Begun" made it to #2
and became their second major hit in less than one year.
Over the next several years their first album "Close to You"
would sell over 7 million copies, becoming on of the greatest
sellers of all time.
