The Body is a Bollywood thriller starring Emraan Hashmi, Rishi Kapoor, and Sobhita Dhulipala, directed by Jeethu Joseph. The film is a Hindi-language remake of the 2012 Spanish film The Body, and centers around the mysterious disappearance of a wealthy businesswoman named Maya Varma (played by Dhulipala) and the subsequent investigation into her death.

The movie begins with the discovery of Maya's lifeless body in a morgue, where it has been brought for an autopsy. Her husband Ajay Puri (Hashmi) is in denial about her death and desperate to uncover the truth behind her demise. Ajay is a successful business magnate, but he's also haunted by Maya's infidelity which creates suspicion even among his loved ones.

Maya's death is initially ruled as a suicide, but the discovery of a missing corpse then suggests foul play. Enter the character of the no-nonsense cop, SP Jairaj Rawal (Rishi Kapoor), who takes over the investigation. Jairaj is an experienced officer but he's plagued by his own personal demons. The investigation becomes a tug of war between Ajay and Jairaj, with both trying to outwit the other to uncover the truth.

The movie is structured as a classic murder-mystery thriller, with several twists and turns in the plot. Each character in the film has their own motivations and hidden secrets, which keeps the audience guessing till the end. The screenplay by Oriol Paulo and Ramón Campos, is gripping and the direction by Jeethu Joseph is taut making it an engaging film to watch.

The film is set in picturesque locations across Mauritius, with its turquoise waters and white sandy beaches providing a beautiful backdrop. The cinematography by Satheesh Kurup is superb and captures the visual splendor of the island nation in all its glory. The film's background score by Clinton Cerejo adds to the suspense and thrill.

The performances by the leading actors are commendable. Emraan Hashmi portrays Ajay's desperation and grief convincingly in a restrained manner. Rishi Kapoor as the sharp-witted yet troubled cop, delivers some fine acting moments. Sobhita Dhulipala looks glamorous as the deceased who sets off the plot, but her performance is limited, as most of it is conveyed through flashbacks and footage from her videos shot by Ajay.

The Body, while not offering something completely novel, provides a decent plot executed well. The movie touches upon intriguing themes like extramarital affairs, betrayal, and revenge, but with enough twists and turns, the plot keeps the audience glued to their seats. The movie also throws light on the influence of media trials in high profile murder cases.

Overall, The Body is a suspenseful thriller with a tightly knit plot and good performances, and it makes for an engaging and enjoyable watch. The movie is also a refreshing change of pace for Emraan Hashmi, who is known for his roles in romantic and erotic thrillers. For those who enjoy classic who-dunnit thriller films that keep you guessing until the end, The Body is definitely worth a watch.

The Body is a 2019 thriller with a runtime of 1 hour and 41 minutes. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.4.
