The 2010 movie called 'The Assault' was one that was based on the true story and events that came from a hijacking of an Air France jet on Christmas Eve of 1994. A group of Muslim terrorists hijack the plane and it is the French special forces group called the GIGN that are repsonsible for getting the plane back. The Assault starts out with the French special forces unit and show their expertise and lives and culminates with the apprehension of the hijacked Air France plane. The main story is that four hijackers have taken over an Air France plane in Algiers. The hijackers were intending to hijack the plane and then run it into the Eiffel Tower in France. The government of France goes into crisis mode and with that they ask for the services of a special forces unit to help keep the hijacking situation under control. During the film, you are taken behind the scenes and given a glimpse into the lives of the special forces, especially the life of the man that is the leader and in control of the special forces group.
The film and its creshendo happens at the end when the special forces storm the plane and work on trying to take it back. The Assault was directed by Julien Leclerq and was his biggest project in his short directing career. It is Denis Favier who was the leader of the GIGN special forces group and it is his story that The Assault deals with in much detail. The Assault also follows the story of Carole, a lady that was working with the Foreign Ministry and was responsible of conducting some kind of dialogue with the hijackers. The Assault also follows the lives of the terrorists as they prepare for their hijacking mission.
The Assault was produced in 2010 and released in France in 2011. The movie was given a limited release during 2012 in the United States and the movie is available on Blue-Ray and DVD all around the world.
