The Anomaly is a 2014 British science fiction action-thriller directed by Noel Clarke and starring Noel Clarke himself along with Ian Somerhalder and Brian Cox. The movie tells the story of a former soldier named Ryan who wakes up in the back of a van with a young boy named Alex, who he has never met before. Ryan soon discovers that he has been kidnapped and has only nine minutes and forty-seven seconds of consciousness to escape before he falls back into his semiconscious state.
Ryan soon encounters some familiar faces, including Dr. Langham, played by Brian Cox, and the lead kidnapper Harkin, played by Ian Somerhalder, who's experience in their field has left him feeling disillusioned about it. Langham explains that Ryan is part of an experimental program to create the perfect soldier, and the implant in Ryan's head is the key to this goal. Uniquely, Ryan's implant allows him to become conscious every nine minutes, allowing him to experience just over ten times more of the world than other people.
In the movie, Ryan and Alex team up to both escape and uncover the mystery behind Ryan's implant. As they race against time, they discover that there are more people like Ryan and that Langham's experiment was not all that it seemed to be. Ryan's implant is connected to his brain in a way that forces him to carry out orders he doesn't want to carry out, making him a mindless killing machine. Alex is the key to unlocking Ryan's mind and breaking him free from the implant's control.
The Anomaly is a visually stunning movie filled with breathtaking chase and fight scenes. The actings and the chemistry between the main characters is great - impressive given that the first half of the movie is set entirely inside a van - and there are plenty of plot twists to keep viewers engaged. The story raises some interesting questions about what it means to be human, and whether it is ever right to experiment on a person without their consent. The Anomaly is a fascinating and thought-provoking movie, and it deals with complex philosophical concepts in a way that is accessible to all.
The film also shows Ryan's post-traumatic stress from his time in the army, which affects his ability to reconnect with his estranged girlfriend Dana. It's a great subplot that ties the whole story together while adding depth to Ryan's character. While Ryan may have been a soldier in the past, he's not just any soldier caught in the middle of a war. He's a victim of a heinous crime, and he's doing everything in his power to regain control of his life.
The Anomaly is ultimately a thrilling and suspenseful movie that will keep you engaged from the start to the finish. Despite its twists and turns, you will find yourself rooting for Ryan and Alex to overcome the obstacles that stand in their way. If you are a fan of science-fiction, action, and thrillers, then The Anomaly is definitely worth checking out.
